Our Fukien tea tree has been grown for 10 years and is about 12-16 inches tall. The tree has been carefully cared for and shaped beautifully. Therefore, when you buy it, all you need to do is take good care of it and you will have an excellent bonsai tree.
The Fukien Tea, also known as Carmona, is a magnificent indoor Bonsai tree that thrives in heat and can even be grown outdoors in warm climates. It originated in Southern Asia and became a beloved Bonsai tree in China.
With its classic shape, weathered and gnarled trunk, and full canopy of foliage, the Fukien Tea appears as a miniature version of an ancient tree. It produces small white flowers in the months of April and May, adding to its charm.
Although it grows slowly, the Fukien Tea Bonsai is a tree that will only continue to develop and grow more beautiful over time. Its trunk boasts a beautiful, swaying shape that supports the tree’s full, lush foliage.

Although training a Bonsai tree may be a bit more demanding than caring for a regular houseplant, it doesn’t require an advanced “green thumb.” By following some simple guidelines, you can have a thriving Bonsai tree that brings joy for years to come.
Care
Indoor Bonsai are tropical plants that are perfectly suited for indoor conditions. It may take a few weeks for your bonsai to adjust to its new environment and it is normal for it to shed up to 20% of its foliage during this period. To ensure optimal growth, place your indoor bonsai near windows that face southeast or west for exposure to sunlight. If you do not have a sunny spot, use a grow light. During the summer months, outdoor placement on a patio or deck will be ideal for your bonsai, with morning sun and afternoon shade being the best exposure. Make sure to bring it back indoors when temperatures fall below 55 degrees and never allow it to freeze.
WATERING
Proper watering is crucial for maintaining a healthy bonsai. Water your indoor bonsai every two to three days, with variations depending on the tree species. Consult the information tag attached to your bonsai for specific watering instructions. Watering with ice cubes is a convenient method. Ensure that the soil is thoroughly wetted, without letting the bonsai dry out. A humidity tray filled with decorative stones not only captures excess water but also creates the necessary humidity around your bonsai. When your indoor bonsai is outdoors, water it daily, using a fine-spray nozzle watering can or hose attachment to thoroughly soak the soil and allow water to run out of the drain holes. While misting the foliage is recommended, it is not a substitute for watering. Regular trimming is also important for maintaining a beautiful bonsai shape. REPOTTING
It’s necessary to repot your bonsai every 4 to 5 years when its root system becomes pot-bound. Repotting should be done in late spring or early summer, using good bonsai soil to allow proper drainage. Wait at least one growing season after receiving your bonsai before repotting to ensure that it is well-established. For specific instructions, refer to a bonsai book.
FERTILIZING
Fertilizing is essential for bonsai growth. Use water-soluble or time-released fertilizers as directed, and slow-releasing organic fertilizers for mature bonsai specimens.
INSECTS & DISEASES
Bonsai, like any other plant, can be prone to insect and disease attacks. Regular inspections are crucial to keep your bonsai healthy. Spraying the trunk and foliage periodically can help keep it clean. If any issues arise, most garden centers have treatment products available.
